There seems a pervasive nihilism,
One that is present for the ones who wish to enact change.
The one often called a revolutionary--freedom fighter, radical.
What think they of the nature of change?
He fights all his life to bring life,
To sway the public toward justice and truth--
To teach mankind of communal--love.
A love which has hitherto been abandoned by society.
He fixes his regard to the left, he sees war.
He turns to the right, he spots calamities.
He ponders above, and he views injustice.
He wonders below, he sees the suffering of mankind.
Amidst all, it seems as though he is the only aware.
In all he sees precious lives, none above the other.
He seeks for society to live amicably,
For the individual to thrive--to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
He wishes that children are not brutalized,
That women are not raped,
That men are not violated.
He hopes for this and that--more.
There is however a stumbling block.
One that seems to hinder all progress,
That is human nature; filled with goodness and wickedness.
Which prevails?
It perhaps, as history has shown, that wickedness, yes!
Goodness is tainted by much foolishness, that the light in humankind gets dimmer daily.
Thus, if one holds that view, the path and call to change seems pointless.
Perhaps it is all worthless.
If he holds the other view, of goodness overweighs.
He is emboldened, strengthened and fights with ease.
That mankind though has a tendency to do evil,
Are capable of turning from their way--repent, to live another day.
However, these two leads to the same outcome.
Change is made today but is tomorrow reversed.
A better present, tolerable future, yet a grim distant-future.
After he is forgotten, all reverts to its original state.
Great men arose: Moses, Joshua, Gideon, David and more.
While alive the nation was in order, all is well.
Still after them, after they passed on, it is said:
"And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord.
--Judges 2: 11"
Overtime they do worse, sullying their white robe.
And God yet sends another revolutionary, they repent---
For a generation or two, and the cycle repeats.
What can one do? What is there to say?
God has given rise to many fighters,
Men and Women who challenge the status quo.
Who combat the majority opinion.
Who wages war against oppression, no matter its form.
Still the grim truth is perhaps that, it is pointless.
That all fighting amounts to nought.
That change is like smoke, once here and forever isn't.
That does not sound pleasant.
That must not be so, for there are flashes of heaven.
If such, it must be an expression of a certain permanent state.
Many have seen it, a promised land presented.
Yet, like Moses, none are able to fully access it.
A thing to come--echoed and pulsated in hearts of certain individuals.
The fighter seeks to experience it, even till death.
Through humiliation and dark days,
That one day all will permanently change.
A potent hope at the heart of every revolutionary.
A day where a divine figure will appear in the sky,
Where all will see and hear him.
All evil will at once cease--all suffering no more.
A day to enjoy spoils of war--a day of salvation.
All tears will be wiped away, all things made new.
The wickedness in human nature extinguished.
All wars end, injustice and oppression no more.
Ah! One can finally live life, not constrained to one corner of it.
"And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.
And he said unto me, write: for these words are true and faithful.
----Revelation 21 : 5"
And so, they fight, no matter the cost.
Though assailed --though ridiculed and despised,
They wake up anew, carrying their cross.
As the heaven they see assuages the suffering today.
A better to-morrow, to be.
